The first time I ever saw the ocean was in Brasil. It was amazing, and I was so excited.
We spent a day at Cumbuco, (Koomboocoo) a beach about an hour outside of Fortaleza where we got to ride in dune buggies on actual sand dunes. They drove us to a dune with a fresh water lake. At the top of the HUGE hill there were young kids with sleds. We slid down the hill into the freshwater lake. (L-R) Cindy, Me, Christie, Kelly.
When we got back from the dunes, Christie, Me, and Kelly (L-R), paid 5 reals to ride horses down the beach for an hour. Very cool. We also got to go sailing.
I was in Brasil in 1998. The world cup was in France that year, and as most of you probably know, Brasil is a country, VERY into their soccer. Brasil made it all the way to championship round, where they lost 3-0 to France. But it was super fun to watch the games. The entire city shuts down. I still watch World Cup Soccer when I can. WhenI'm not working at a camp with no television. I may have to get cable next summer just for the baseball and soccer.
A random picture from our 4th of July celebration. We played volleyball on the beach and barbecued hamburgers. (R-L) Rosie, Vicki, Christie, Me, Sarah.
i was, of course, on the winning team. Back row: Rosie, Sarah, Angie, Grace. Middle row: Danny, me, Ryan. Front row: Dave. Not sure why Ryan is holding a football since we played volleyball, but, there ya go.

Court, I've never been to Canada if that helps.
Yeah, Dawn, that is lame. It's right there!
Thansk for sharing! That's so awesome. And there was nothing quasi about my request. And I'll even ask you to keep it coming. Maybe I'm forgetting something here, but have you mentioned why or how you got to spend a summer in Brasil?
I've never been to any foreign country including Canada. I was about 2 miles from the Canadian border in Northern Minnesota, but never went across.
I went to Vancouver with my high school band when I was 17, and I crossed the border fishing on Lake Metigoshe a couple of times. Other than that, I've never left the country. Heck, I hardly ever get out of the state these days!
carly, I do have some more pics I'll post in a couple days. I'll talk about why I was there in that entry.
Vive la France! Vive la France! Vive la France!
Oh, wait. Sorry.
I've been to um, France. And Canaduh. And England, Luxumbourg, Germany, Italy and Monaco. You really get more bang for your country-hopping buck in Europe.
It's like going to SD, ND, IA, MN & WI except they don't talk as funny. Heh.
Lucky...I have always wanted to dune buggy...
PS Nice hunks in the last picture...Score 1 for Dawn. Your new nick name henceforth will be....
Brian, it was super fun. We then conned the drivers into driving us the hours drive back to Fortaleza where we lived instead of us taking the bus. It was great, an hour on the back of a dune buggy.
Nice Sarah, vive la france indeed.
