So, I've spent the last three days in Chicago. JoAnna was on spring break so we took a few days and went on down. We stayed at the Omni hotel on Michigan Ave. It was fantastic. We got in around ten to eight, and took the train into the city and a cab to our hotel. We stayed low-key on Wednesday, took a nap or two, went to Giordano's for Chicago-Style Pizza (Carly, if your pizza didn't look like this, you were robbed)
We headed out to the Oriental Theatre to put our names in for the Wicked front-row-tickets drawing. We didn't win, so we decided to walk back to the hotel instead of grabbing a cab. We walked a little too far, walked back a bit, stopped at barnes and noble to buy a map, and grabbed a cab the rest of the way because it was suddenly pouring rain. Once back at the hotel, the friendly front-desk-staff suggested we go to the Grand Lux Cafe' for dinner. This cafe had fantastic desserts. They bake them all fresh, individually, so you have to order your desserts before you order your food. We had beignets and roasted pineapple upside down cake.
Wednesday was our full day. We hit the Field Museum, the aquarium, Ghiradelli's and tried for Wicked tickets again. At the field museum we saw a great exhibit on Pompeii, and this:
That's right, and entire exhibit on shoes. It was like heaven.
We saw the dolphin show at the Shedd Aquarium, and we also saw penguins. Yay for penguins! These rockhopper penguins were hilarious. There was a man in the tank spraying down the rocks and everytime he came near the birds with the hose they'd try to stand their ground, but inevitably would fall or run away. It was really entertaining, and we probably spent the most time down there watching them. They were so cute.
At Ghiradelli, we split a banana split, and the lady accidentally made an extra strawberry sundae, so JoAnna got to have that for free. It was good times.
After that we headed back to the Oriental theatre to try for seats to Wicked again, this time, we won. We got to sit in the very front row, for $25.00. It was awesome. The girl who played Glinda was doing her first performance in that role, and she had some trouble on a couple songs, but overall it was a good performance. We were exhausted after that and headed back to the hotel (after walking several blocks in the freezing, wind-biting rain trying to get a cab) and went to bed.
Friday we woke up and pretty much just headed to the airport to catch our plane. The flight was uneventful and Theresa picked us up and we headed home. But it was a fantastic time and I still love and adore the city of Chicago.

Sounds fun!
I KNEW it!!! Ack O'Hare!
Bex really has a jones to visit Chicago, but I'm not that into it. Maybe you have me reconsidering...
Carly - Go, it's a fantastic City, we're not much along the lines of bar girls, but you an dbex are so into music you'd love all the clubs. seriously, go.
who is who in this pic?
ah, the pic on the bottom, JoAnna is on the left, and I am on the right.
We're definitely not club types, but I've heard that there's a pretty great music (as in bands) scene going on down there. Do you know anything about that?
I just looked at that bottom photo again and that's a really great shot! Both of you look great and the cityscape behind is phenomenal! Where were you when it was taken?
I don't know a lot, but there are tons of chicago tourism websites thath ave good info on it, google it, i'd suggest, sorry i'm not more helpful, or, stop in at your canadian version of barnes and noble (i can't remember what the big bookstores are called up there, chapters?) and check out the chicago travel guides, they usually have good sections on the music scene.
and if you go, go to the chicago historical society, we didn't make it there this time, but i've been there before and it's awesome.
we were outside the aquarium and museum in that shot (the planetarium is also there) i love it because we got the lake, us and the city in it. it kind of sums up chicago. so we were on south shore drive.
