The color of money

I'm going on a money diet. I've been spending carelessly for a long time, and my savings are down to nil, and after my rent comes out of my checking account, my balance is going to be embarassingly low, indeed, the lowest it has ever been, i think. So no more going out to eat and spending money and all that stuff. I'll come out with y'all, but nobody lets me order anything, got it?

And no shopping! I'm a chronic shopper and it's embarrassing how many clothes i have. i'm not embarrassed about my shoe supply, but i can't buy any for awhile (the only exception is a pair of closed toe black shoes, because I don't have ANY, and really, I need one pair of those) so if you want me to come shopping with you, (as people often do, i pick out great clothes for others) fine, but don't let me buy anything.

no more bringing my checkbook to work, I get in trouble with this, because i never have cash, but i can cash checks at the store downstairs. So I'm taking my checks out of my wallet when I get home tonight. I'm keeping the cash card, because well, what if I run out of gas or something?

but seriously, i need to save up some money, it freaks me out not having a savings account. I was going to save up and buy some furniture, but rachel is giving me a dresser, (thanks rach!) and that should tide me over for awhile. I canceled my membership at the Y, because i can get just as much exercise walking with nick and kath, and that's more fun anyway.

so you're all on duty. if you ask me to do something that costs money, i hope you're prepared to pay. If anyone has any suggestions of things I can do to save money, I'm all for it. And I do still have that damn desk to sell if anyone is interested in a beautiful desk with hutch...

I hate that i'm this poor coming up on baseball season!

No more shopping for you! You have to save your money for the Team Chipotle Cruise!

(because that's going to happen anytime soon!)

Good plan

And you're welcome for the dresser. Thanks for taking it (as soon as I have a new one, that is)

I have to find a recipe to make - for some weird reason, I'm feeling slight pressure. But, it's okay.

You can do it!

I still have my second job - that's how I'm saving money.

sarah, well, I'd probably go between 125-150, I paid 185 for it less than a year ago, used it for a month and now it holds my cd's.

dem, i seriously almost cried when I found out how low my checking account balance would be. i need to stop spending.

$135 + transport to SF?

OH NO! Sad. It okay though you can do it. You have alot more restraint than I do. I think about leaving one of my credit cards at home sometimes. Then whoops, it gets left in my purse. I liked the provision about the black shoes:)

Good luck.

wait, I have to transport it to sioux falls? or the elusive "someone" will pay my gas? Cause gas is spendy, and I don't have a vehicle that will move this, so we may have to chat. email?

and jo, really, i need black shoes!

"and jo, really, i need black shoes"

Lol........

Ask yourself this,

Can U do less for coffee and bagels, I know I can't, so no way......Or can I read my magazine at the library? I know I can't...so, can't see where I can Rein on my spending...

dawnmarie said...

see, I don't drink coffee, or eat bagels (unless someone brings them into work, in which case they're free)

I know where my problem is, I eat out too, too much. I need to stop that.

And I do need black shoes. I wear them to work every day and not having a pair is cutting down on the professional clothing i can wear to work.

and i love my friends, but i need to stop buying them tubs of krak pretzels and girl scout cookies.

I hear ya loud and clear. I need to stop going places every weekend, eating out, drinking, buying movies, going to movies, etc. How much of that will actually stop? Not much at all.

Krak pretzels?

And yeah, the Girl Scout cookies. I'm doing reasonably well financially, but methinks my iPod and I have to get out and go walking or something.

Sarah said...

kristie, see my blog post from a couple days ago for the krak pretzels. and go back a couple more days earlier for the arrival of said krak. i mean pretzels.

Kristie said...

Oh, that's a pretty pretzel. I'm not really into pretzels, though that doesn't stop Chubby Hubby from being my favorite Ben & Jerry's.

yeah, i'm not a giant fan either, but throw about 3 inches of almond bark and sprinkles on each one and it's a totally different ball game...

As a full-time college student, I do spend alot. More that I can avoid. So, yeah I hear U on this...

dawnmarie said...

So far, so good. I spent zero money today.

*nods* I understand where you're at--my biggest problem is "little things"--the impulse purchases, "I came for these black shoes, but those white sandals are so cute!" I need to stop doing that!

dawnmarie said...

hey! Where'd my other post go?

Rachel said...

I was just gonna ask you the same thing!

I can pay for my own girl scout cookies. I mean its not like you are going to get any enjoyment out of me eating them.
And you don't want to share the Peanut Butter ones as much as I would share with you.
