I woke up rather early this morning, and hauled my butt all the way to Prior Lake to pick up the last piece of my grad school application. It is now done, and I will send it out on Monday, since I forgot the rest of it at work.
After I left the bank I used to work at, I met my mom for lunch, it was fun, and made the massive drive south a little more cost-effective.
I called Rachel and told her that I would be able to make it to Ms. Anne Ursu's booksigning at 2:00 in Coon Rapids. So I headed straight to rachel's so we could head out.
We hop in Rachel's car, she's driving, I'm navigating. Google directions instruct you to take 94 to 280 to 10 to 65 to main street to Round Lake Blvd. No problem, right.
Wrong. Turns out Coon Rapids? Doesn't exist. If anyone tries to tell you otherwise, they're lying and are likely part of the conspiracy. If you encounter such a person, run in the other direction and seek help. Team Chipotle's team of superheroes will come to your rescue.
An hour and a half after we left St. Paul, we found the hypothetical Border's in the city that wasn't. It was now 3:00. Turns out, her signing was at 1:00, so we missed her. Had we gotten there at 2:00 instead of 3:00 we would have seen her. We're still planning on going to the April 8th signing near our houses, so we'll get our autographs, but I feel bad, because we had told her we'd be there, and we didn't show up. I sent her an email and all is good, but I still feel bad.
From now on, Coon Rapids shall hereby be referred to as "coon rapids". Quotes must be engaged when talking of "coon rapids".
Sorry Rach, I decided to post this. The other entry will be on another day.

I do not know this "Coon Rapids" of which you speak.
Plus, Borders is a lame knock-off of B&N. The only way you could have salvaged the trip is if you found an imaginary Chipotle and had an invisible burrito.
and NO! - Dairy Queen doesn't count.
Oh yeah - I almost forgot: EXCELLENT!
Dairy Queen was fitting for the moment at hand though. totally fixed a craving for butterscotch cookies.
Coon Rapids = BFE
agreed, rocket, agreed. except you forgot the quotes. "coon rapids"
Where is it in relation to St. Anthony? That's one sleepy-ass little town that I would never have found if not for priceline.com putting me in the Four Points Sheraton just across 35W. We did find a cute little bar there, so it was all good.
nahaha. according to yahoo maps, one must travel through mounds view to get from one to the other.
yes. we waved at Barb.
How could you not know where Coon Rapids is, it's only about 20 miles or so away from Maple Grove. You are so getting a map for Christmas.
You forgot that we were briefly on Highway 36 on our way to "Coon Rapids".
It's a government conspiracy, I tell you. I don't care if Nick did find their city website.
You could have always called me. The northern 'burbs are my territory and I shop in the Riverdale area frequently.
Jo, don't buy me a map, hoser. I'll never need to go to "coon rapids" again.
rach, don't you mean "city website"?
kristie, we should have, it never occured to us. stupid us.
oh yeah, i've been meaning to ask, who's anne ursu?
This local author. She's pretty cool.
Anne Ursu is very cool. I had never met her before, but she got up from her table and hugged me and everything.
I might have to do a map to see what wacky directions it gives me to get there. Hee.
Kristie - I know, when I met her on Friday, she gave me a hug, and treated me like I was the celebrity.
Me: I'm dawn
her: You are.not!
Anne is very awesome. I've only met her a few times, and she's always been sweet!
Mapquest gave me screwed up directions to "coon rapids", so I'm not really sure it really exists on the same plane as the rest of the world. I think it takes magic to get there. I missed the reading, which makes me sad.
see! it wasn't just me!
I used Google Maps for our directions, but I guess when you ask for directions to a place that doesn't exist, it just decides to send you on a tour of the northern metro area.
It exists, I swear! Babs has a brother who lives there, my dad used to work there...I even saw "Titanic" at a movie theater there.
And yeah, it was great how before she could actually hug me, she was telling her husband and other folks I'm not familiar with "This is Kristie!" I was amused.
kristie, that's great. "this is Kristie!" Had you met her before?
No, I hadn't. I was sort of standing off to the side while Beth was talking to her, and then I'm all, "Here's my book, and Barb's book..." "Oh, you're a Batling?!" "Oh, yeah, I'm Kristie."
on Friday, I felt like a celebrity, it's a unique gift she has to make people feel welcomed and wanted.
Exactly.
