Do not hire a man who does your work for money, but him who does it for love of it.

For the past year and a half, I've worked for Hennepin County, handling economic assistance cases. That sounds really fancy. Basically, I hand out welfare.

For the past year and a half, I've loved my job. I suck at working in the business world, because I have a really hard time caring how much money my boss makes. I can only be in the business world if it's my own business.

Twice in the past week, I've hated my job. I came home today, nearly in tears. One day last week the same thing happened.

So, I think, as of now, I'm going to look for a new job, with a non-profit or a county. So, if anyone hears of anything, let me know.

Or, alternately, if anyone wants to fund a non-profit literacy foundation to raise the reading levels of inner-city children, I'd be happy to run that for you.

As soon as I win the lottery I'll get that non-profit literacy organization going for ya. :)

I'm with Rachel on the lottery thing!

Good luck with the job search :)

It sucks, because it's not my job itself, it's specific things happening within the organization, things that are being overlooked and I just don't want to deal with it anymore.

It's ok, Iv'e been wanting to transfer more to the non-profit side of things anyway, working with a small organization, but I do love working for the county.

I'm sure it will blow over, but I am going to do some looking.

I hope you either become re-adjusted to your job, or find something new soon!

Added to my list of things to do when I become independently wealthy: "Fund a literacy foundation; hire Dawn to run it."

If they take away the keyboard, hit the road.

You can always apply at the Derek Zoolander Center For Children Who Can't Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too.

All joking aside, it sucks when things like that happen at the organizational level and you can't do a thing about it. I hope it gets better *hug*

It does suck, and there isn't anything I can do to change it. (Although this is why i switched my grad school plans from field work to administrative/policy work, so that at some point, I can change it)

I say come to the dark side of the for profit world we are not so bad.

The only way I could work in the for-profit world, is if I owned my own business and the for-profit was for me.

Good for you Dawn. As I said in the post above, I'd like an update. I admire you for hanging around while it was good, but also knowing when to leave. So many of us get stuck in routine/comfort/complacency and never move forward. Good for you!
