Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths theater.

So, I've been talking a lot with Beth and a little with Toni. I kind of do want to finish my teaching degree.

Here's the numbers:
estimated starting teacher's salary- (2003-2004) - 30,772
what i make now - more than that

rent for 4 months - 3000.00
car payments - 1550 .00(that's an extra month or two)
phone bill - 170.00
cable/internet - 400.00
tuition - 2-3000.00
Classroom expenses - 500 minimum
gas - lots

income while student teaching - 0.00

and all of that leaves me without a master's degree even. which i want.

today, i found this:
Master's of Arts in Instruction

basically, it's a master's degree program that gives you instruction in education, as well as a license at the end of the program. i still have to do the student teaching, but i have 2-3 years to prepare for it, and i graduate with a master's degree, which also puts me at a higher rate of pay to start with when i'm teaching. the downside is that i will get tuition reimbursement for very few, if any classes.

this is an intense decision.

A master's and a teaching license? Sounds like a good deal to me. Can you do something with this degree besides teaching?

well, it will enable me to get numerous jobs in the education field and it puts me an entire degree up on my required continuing education.

Hhhmmm this sounds quite hopeful to me!
And right up the literacy alley!
Hmmmm :)

yeah. a master's in education (particularly keeping my concentration in Comma arts and Lit) will definately enable me to get jobs in literacy.

Awesome! Even if you ultimately decide you don't want to go this route, I'm glad you at least looked into the possibilities. And, honestly, this program looks very good and managable.

Oh, I was meaning to tell you...I saw a book at BN on adolescent literacy something or other in the Education section. Looked interesting for you :)

use some of bert's california math to make the numbers work, i mean if that's what you really want in your heart. there's usually a way to finagle something, isn't there?

well, i just talked to a guy at the school to see if it's worth it since i have my bachelor's in education and he is going to evaluate my transcripts for me.
