It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.

All right. After a bit of discussion, the following proposal has been made:

June 9-11th
Big Island State Park
The first, not-yet-annual Team Chipotle and Friends camping extravanganza.
I have Sarah, Theresa, Rachel, Erika and I signed up. Others are welcome

We thought that going earlier in June will hopefully mean that it is not as hot and humid as it would/could be in late June.

Big Island is near Albert Lea, it's a 2.5(SF)-1.5(TC) ratio for distance in hours. All the others were 1 hour(SF) -3 or 4(TC) hour ratios. So it had the best ratio.

approximate cost:

Campsite for two nights: $38.50
Parking permits for two cars for two days: $28.00 (we may need a third day, but we might be able to get away with two days)
Food: $10 each?
Wood: $5 a bundle?

What do you all think? Who has supplies?
I have a 2 person tent. And I can get a 5 person tent if necessary.

unrelated update: Sammi is out of the hospital! she's now able to keep down fluids and is recovering at home. she'll still be sick for awhile, but she's home!

I'm pretty sure I can't make it that weekend, alas. However, if you need camping supplies (tents, sleeping bag, air mattress, etc.) let me know and I can send 'em along.

I need a tent. And a twin-size air mattress.

Yay camping!

Camping = Good
Camping on a weekend my mother is trying to foist Karla off on me = Excellent

I have a couple tents and miscelleanous camping supplies. Basically if we need it, I've got it somewhere in my house or garage.

I have a couple sleeping bags. and tents. and propane stoves, although a campfire should work just fine. I know rachel doesn't like hot dogs, but if she's gonna be picky...

i have two twin air mattresses and a queensized one too

I think anyone who camps is brave. (last time I went camping with dawn I ended up in the hospital hee hee hee!)

I have a sleeping bag. I suppose I could settle for hot dogs, even though they completely gross me out...

rach, how do you feel about brats?

I'm just looking at things you can cook over a fire.

Jo, not my fault.

this should work for me. I have a big tent (10 person), a sleeping bag a camping chair and about 4 metal sticks used for making marshmallows and such.

Rachel said...

i have a tent for my dog.

um, apparently i didn't pay attention to the dates earlier, but i should find out what's going on with my sister, it's her b-day on the 10th and sometimes she gets weird about stuff like that. as long as her BF is available, i should be fine.

t - would you be coming down to pick me up? not sure i trust my car - or at least want to be alone while driving my car great distances along sparsely populated stretches of interstate.

wait... does albert lea have a chipotle?

negative, Captain. The Closest Chipotle is, again, Mankato. There is a campground near Mankato, but that puts the campground 3 hours from brookings, and only one from us...

it didn't seem fair, although we did consider it.

it smells like fireworks outside my window. and now there's a firetruck careening down the street.

Sarah said...

*was kidding*

dawnmarie said...

Ok, Sarah, keep us updated on the sister's birthday celebrations. We're just pending that.

Sarah, I'm more than happy to combine forces for driving

You forgot $25 a day per person for livations.

Glad to hear the little one is better.

Rachel - You don't have to have hot dogs/brats. You could make one of those hamburger-veggie things where you put meat, potatoes, carrots, etc. in foil and set it in the coals to cook. They're quite yummy.

dawnmarie said...

oh, those are good too. we'll be there two nights...

Dawn remember, you can always live on smores :)

Did you guys find out what was wrong with your goddaughter???

I haven't camped in YEARS. Have a blast!!!!

dawnmarie said...

Rebecca, She was having an allergic reaction to some medication, which cause an internal rash, including her stomach, and so whenever food or liquid touched the rash, she threw up. The poor thing was miserable.

I'm glad to hear Sammie is feeling better :)

Hmm.. I missed this. Ok, ladies, here's the deal. Crazy mmm has camping gear out the wazoo. Well, not literally, 'cuz that would hurt. But, if you need a tent, I've got a major big tent that will fit all of y'all. 3 rooms, sleeps something like ... I dunno... 12 or something.

If you're looking for some easy food ideas, I have those, too. You know how to reach me.
