When I was in college, I didn't own a car until I was junior. So, when I went home, I would frequently hitch a ride with Jeb.
Jeb was two years older than me, but he and I had been friends since I was in the seventh grade. We even "dated" when I was eighth. If you can call it that at the young ages of 14 and 16. We lost touch when I moved away from Maple Grove, but discovered each other again when I started college, and we were both in the same choir. (Three misguided years a a vocal performance/music education major ensured I spent a lot of time in performance ensembles) We became friends again, and since we lived rather near each other, he often offered me a ride home.
The drive from Moorhead to the Twin Cities can take anywhere from 3-4 hours, depending on where you're going in the cities. So Jeb and I made up a game. We would look at the license plates of the other cars, and make up phrases for the three letter codes. I was reminded of this on my way to work this morning when a car passed me (I was going 75 on 94, btw. the speed limit is 55 and he passed me...) and the three letters on his plate were NYC. Now, that one is easy.
Jeb and I would race to see who could come up with the best phrase for the plates in front of us first. One fateful trip, we were behind a car with the three letters "NVK". I screamed out, at the top of my lungs, "NUDE VEHICLE KARMA!!!" Yes, it does require three exclamation points, it was that vehement. Jeb and I had a good laugh at my zealousness and continued our trip.
The following Monday, when I walked into choir, the entire tenor section yelled out "NUDE VEHICLE KARMA!" I was so embarrassed, and it was a class joke for the rest of my 3 years in the music department.
Random post, but a fun story that I remembered from my college days.

I think you gotta write posts like this sometimes. It is good to remember those times!
Kind of like your word verification game, isn't it?
hee, you're right lauren, it is like my word verification game!
There are worse things to be known for, right?
I like your word verification game, Dawn. It makes me a little nostalgic for the days when we all used it. Okay, not really.
Carly, Please don't start the word verification again! Oh, Lord!
and I never used it. Once you've had your blog for awhile there's no spam. I think I've been spammed once, ever.
I was just sayin'. I liked your game. I really am hoping that it doesn't come back into fashion. The whole spam thing seems to go in waves. Sometimes there's a lot and most of the time there's none. I will say that it's a Blogger thing, though. I've yet to get one on my Typepad space. (Didn't I just open myself up there...) And might I remind you that I only used word verification for a VERY SHORT period when I first got started. Trust me, I wasn't trying to dig that up.
Good story - reminds me of my favourite bumper sticker (seen locally in Nelson, BC).
MY KARMA RAN OVER MY DOGMA
(Not the "K"!)
