I don't care how many legs a spider has. I'll call it a bug if I want to call it a bug.

I don't like bugs. Bugs, spiders, centipedes, army worms, millipedes. They're all bugs to me. And you can call me a girly girl if you want, but I don't like 'em.

Except one.

When I was in college, I worked at the student union, the CMU. I was trained in every service area. I worked mostly in the main office as a secretary, and as a building manager. I also spent a semester or two in the Etc. Shop. The Etc. Shop sold a variety of things. Among them, Beanie Babies. And the lesser known Beanie Buddies. One of these Beanie Buddies was a ladybug, named Lucky. Lucky and I spent some great time together. He'd sit on the counter with me, and we'd talk about our lives, we'd IM and play online games with Toni, (i think this is a lie, but I wanted to mention Toni, cause that's where we met), we'd read Cosmo, and other magazines together. We were the best of friends.

But, at the end of the day, Lucky stayed in the store and I headed home. That year I lived in on campus suites, with two other girls. Four of our close, close friends lived in the suite next door. For Christmas, we drew names. Amy had mine. Now, Amy spent a lot of time in the union. Our college was a small one, and our union was an important place for social gatherings. So she knew about my relationship with Lucky, and she may have even witnessed a tearful goodbye or two. So, on "Christmas" morning (our fake Christmas) I opened my present, and what was in there?

A mug. From San Fransisco where Amy had gone on a conference trip for the health center where she had an internship. I was perfectly happy with the gift, it was thoughtful, as Amy also knew I love San Fransisco. I watched my friends open their gifts, and we had dinner, and everything was great, it was a great time. If you think I was sad, and thinking of Lucky the entire time, you're wrong.

And then. Amy went to her suite to go to the bathroom, cause someone was in ours. She came back with another box, and handed it to me. I opened it, and this time, Lucky was nestled inside on a bed of tissue paper, snug as a bug. *groan*.
Lucky, taking a nap in the guest room.

And they all lived happily ever after.

As long as it is a lady bug and not one of those nasty asian beetles :)

I don't mind bugs as long as they stay away from me. I have been fascinated with them, though, and enjoyed watching them in a stereoscope. It's sort of "whatchamacallit" fascination of the disgusting or something I guess.
These days my Mum usually tease me because I save them if they're indoors. I never kill them - I take a piece of paper and a glass and carry them outside. No matter what bug.

Ladybugs I allways loved, though! I have a small penguin I named Morten (it's the name of my colleague I got it from) on my desk that I share my frustrations with. He even talks back to me. Press his tummy and he gives me a noise I can interpret any way I like. Brilliant companion..

You are such a girl.

If you could only see the spides and bugs that crawl on you over night, very night. ;o)

toni, i know we did that, but not when I lived in Holmquist.

Jo, he's a ladybug. or a gentleman bug, if you wish.

Nerdine! I love penguins, and I have several stuffed ones, including a rockhopper name guido.

Rocket, you suck. :P

Nope, I wasn't in school when you were in Holmquist.

yes you were. you were living with Lori and Geri. Remember, we both had roommate issues?

Toni said...

Oh yep, you're right.
I got the dorm names confused.

Where is Holmquist?
And which is the one they imploded?

holquist was connected to Neumeier. And Neumeier is the one the deleted.
