A weekend with someone's family

Nick and I took off late Friday afternoon for Duluth. Hermantown to be exact. We were originally going to head to Nick's hometown to visit his parents. Through a series of comical events, we ended up meeting his parents in Duluth/Hermantown. His aunt and uncle live in Hermantown, about ten minutes outside of Duluth.

We arrived on Friday, that was a long time in the car for me, so soon after my surgery, but we went inside, and I was able to arrange myself in a comfortable way. I met Nick's aunt, Rose and uncle, Joe. We chatted for a bit, but retired early, as we were both pretty tired.

Saturday we woke up to a fabulous breakfast of fruit and toast. We took off for Hibbing to see his Grandmother. We ate lunch at Zimmy's (compeletely dedicated to Bob Dylan, born and raised in Hibbing, MN) and took a short tour of Nick's dad's hometown.

Nick's mom, Nick, his grandmother, myself
We also went up to the "lookout" to look at the taconite mines.

Nick and I
Saturday night was a party at cousin Susan's (fantastic authentic, homemade greek food. Gyros, mmm) Sunday was breakfast, a nap, lunch and another nap (for me) in the car on the way home.

Nick's uncle Joe plays the accordian, so we also got a little concert on Sunday morning! It was pretty cool, not gonna lie.
Now we're home, and I'm thinking I'm up for a Target run. Later taters! Ack! I have to go to work tomorrow!

work is stupid. I think we should all veto it and still get paid.

It was hard. I made it 6 hours, and had to come home.

You're a stud, just so you know. Six hours is pretty damn good, yo.

Authentic gyros?

Sounds like you had fun! I'm jealous of the accordion concert, hee.

I think T has a good plan. No more work!

It sounds like a great weekend. I'm glad you had fun.

Tacos sound good, as to gyros, especially the authentic ones. I'm so hungry! Only 50 minutes until lunch (where I will eat my Lean Cuisine happily, and not think about the Greek restaurant down the street, thank you very much).

Hey, about the Virtual Book Club? I'm all for another book... I've just been lazy about posting there. What do you feel like reading?

Sounds like you're feeling much better. That's great news.

Seems like you had a very fun weekend. That's great too. I love the photos.

Allow me to display my ignorance: what's a taconite mine? I know I could look it up, but it would be so much more fun to hear your explanation. And I'm lazy too. Hey, I just got back from vacation, I have a lot of catching up to do!

Thanks Rachel. I was being lazy about doing that myself. It was a nice little lesson for the day.
