"Great God, this is an aweful place" - R.F. Scott

One thing that some, but not all people know about me is that I love Antarctica. I've loved penguins for a long time, long before the current craze due to Happy Feet. When I was younger, I read Madeline L'Engle's book Troubling a Star.

In the book, Vicki Austin receives a trip to Antarctica as a birhday gift. It's a rare gift, and a rare experience, but reading it created a longing for me to go to Antarctica. I can only imagine the beauty to be found there.

A few weeks ago, Nick was reading a nerd-blog about law stuff, and it had a link to this blog. David Ruth is an artist who received a grant to go to Antarctica to work with ice. Some of his pictures are fabulous, and I wanted people to be able to check it out.

Someday, I'll get to go there, hopefully through the Falkland Islands, but I'd settle for New Zealand...

That's about the last place on Earth I want to go since I hate winter. I can't wait to see your pictures though!

I'd like to go to Antarctica in January when it's summer there. :)

Awesome picture.

Antarctica is certainly beautiful, but give me a hot sandy beach with a Corona in my hand listening to the nonstop roar of the ocean.
